The pillows have announced their 16th album! OK, not recently, but I just found out. It's titled 'Revolution is my Name(nine miles)', and it's coming out in Japan on the 30th. Also being released on the same day are a new concert DVD and an EP called 'Tokyo Bambi'!
A quick check of their discography shows their smouldering release rate; since their first full-length album in 1991, they've released an album every year except '93, '96, '00, and '05. Since they released both Runners High and Happy Bivouac in 1999, the missing 2000 drops out, leaving just one year in the past 11 that they haven't released and album.
The pillows are most famous in the US for providing the soundtrack to the phenomenal anime FLCL. Anime studio Gainax bought the rights to the three newest albums, 'Little Busters', 'Runners High' and 'Happy Bivouac' in 1999 to accompany short instumental pieces by Shinkichi Mitsumune.
Despite the fact that the anime was only six episodes long, 21 songs were used, plus two new songs specifically written for the show, 'Ride on Shooting Star' which is the closing song and 'I Think I Can' for the climax of the series. Obviously, most of the songs were edited and instrumental, but the power of the music and the way it was used- action planned around the songs- greatly expanded the band's popularity.
My personal favorite song(of the ones I've heard, I have very few of their albums) is 'Beautiful Morning with You' Note: the video has no, well, video. The audio is there, though.
Tomorrow is Primary Day! I can't wait to see Giuliani and Hillary lose again. The others-Paul and Kucinich aside-are bad, but those two are powerhungry tyrants in the making. It'd be nice to see this country at least try to escape this sinkhole.
